Oleander is a tough Mediterranean shrub that thrives where summers are dry and hot. It is a large, evergreen shrub with bushy, rounded to vase-shaped habit. Lance-shaped leaves line the branches throughout the year. The colourful Double pink flowers appear all year around but bloom most heavily from late winter to early summer. Makes a stunning hedge. Plant  in full sun and well-draining soil. Oleanders are very drought tolerant but develop a better floral display and overall form if regularly watered. Frost Hardy to -10C.

WARNING: Oleander is UNSAFE for anyone to take by mouth. It can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, weakness, headache, stomach pain, serious heart problems, and many other side effects. Taking oleander leaf, oleander leaf tea, or oleander seeds has led to deadly poisonings.  Despite the danger, oleander seeds and leaves are used to make medicine. Oleander is used for heart conditions, asthma, epilepsy, cancer, painful menstrual periods, leprosy, malaria, ringworm, indigestion, and venereal disease. Please Don’t use oleander to treat conditions without the supervision of a healthcare professional. It’s too dangerous to self-medicate.
